20-400 Vision by ghostcharmer 20-400 Vision by ghostcharmer
heheh, yeah. that's what my screen looks like with my eyes about a foot and a half away and my glasses off. welcome to having 20/400 vision ^^ i am very VERY grateful for my glasses @.@

for those of you not in the know about what the 20/20 system means: the first 20 is the constant. say you're standing 20 ft away from an object. the second 20 represents the relative blurriness of the object to your eyes. if you have 20/20 vision, then the object will have the blurriness it should have being 20 ft away. if you have 20/40 vision, then it has the same amount of blurriness as if it were 40 ft away, but it's still only 20 ft away. "legally blind" vision (that can't be corrected with lenses) is 20/200 (in CA). mine is 20/400, but because it is correctable with glasses, i'm not registered as blind. for me, an object that is 20 feet away is so blurry it might as well be 400 feet away.

I have this same issue. I was googling around about it and stumbled upon your explanation here. This perfectly describes my situation. Mind if I ask you a few questions?

Thanks. :) How long has your vision been at that level? Have you ever had any other problems with your eyes aside from blurriness?

it's a little worse now than when i posted this, but it's been pretty stable now for several years. Other than blurriness, not really. If i stare at something close up for too long, like when reading a book, my eyes take a LONG time to adjust back to being able to see farther distances, they've been that way since i was kid though, but besides that, nothing unusual.

I am becoming a blind old bat...as I learned that I have a genetic eye disease that will take me to 20/400 or worse. I was looking for some idea of how things will look in the future. The information is appreciated...scary but best to be prepared...I will need corneal transplants...at least once...like every ten years....once I get blind enough for the insurance company to say it's "necessary." I am already 20/50 that cannot be corrected...argh

my dad had to get a corneal transplant when he was in his 20's, now he just wears a potent combination of thick glasses and glass contacts, lol. we just found out that his condition wasn't genetic (whew!), and that it just happens if you rub your eyes too much @.@ But i'm glad i could be helpful for you in some way ^w^

Oh 20/400 vision is oh so very fun XP We'd be lost and stumbling into walls without our lenses!
