Little Color Tut

Description

Doing this "arbitrary color" exercise was really fun and i learned a LOT while doing it, so i thought i'd share a quick little step-by-step showing a bit of my process. Hope this helps somebody out there!

Oh, and if there are any tutorials you guys would like to see from me, please drop a comment! ^w^ i promise they'll be more in-depth than this ^^;

TIP: A working knowledge of light and color vocab is necessary for this tut. Here's a quick rundown of some of the words used:
Saturated = when a color is saturated, it has more pigment/vibrancy to it, or in the case of digital painting, it is further to the right of the color picker. A low-saturated color is one that is closer to the gray end.
Value = the word value is used to describe the lightness and darkness of something. a high value is light, a low value is dark.
Half-tone = one of the words used to describe how light hits a surface. It's any lighted portion that isn't a highlight (highlights are small and sharp). Half-tone parts can vary quite a bit in value.
Shadow shapes = the parts of a lighted object that are covered with shadow. It's handy to first block in the shadows as shapes and then start rendering them in detail. on faces, they're most commonly under and beside the nose, around the eyes, the top lip, etc.

^_^ This is really neat! I generally just work with oils and colored pencils but it's really interesting to see how you can work with digital media in a similar way! <3
